Chapter 5 - The Police Handcuffs & The Paternity Plot

The lead police officer, Captain Thomas, stepped forward with his pair of handcuffs glinting in the afternoon sun.

“Valerie Cross,” Captain Thomas said firmly, “you are under arrest for grand theft, corporate espionage, and criminal conspiracy. You have the right to remain silent.”

“Get off me!” Valerie screamed as two officers grabbed her arms, forcing her hands behind her back. Her designer handbag dropped to the grass, spilling its contents—including two fake international passports, a vial of stolen company records, and a small plastic bag containing a lock of Leo’s hair.

“Look at that!” one of the guests shouted, pointing at the plastic bag on the lawn. “The hair sample! The child was telling the exact truth!”

Valerie kicked and thrashed, her heels tearing up the manicured grass as she was dragged toward the driveway. “Marco, do something! You promised me half the company! You promised me we were going to Paris!”

“I don't know her!” Marco yelled frantically, backing away from the police officers who were now surrounding him. “She’s a crazy ex-employee! She coerced me! Andrea, tell them to stop! I’m your husband! I’m Leo’s father!”

“You are a weak, pathetic traitor,” Andrea said, staring at him without a single flicker of sympathy. “You put our five-year-old son through a terrifying ordeal, holding him down in his own bed so your mistress could cut his hair for a fraudulent plot. You tried to humiliate me in front of my family and business associates. You are no father. You are a predator.”

“Andrea, please!” Marco fell to his knees again, tears of cowardice finally streaming down his face as the cuffs clicked tightly around his wrists. “Think of our marriage! Think of our family!”

“Our marriage died the second you chose to harm our son,” Andrea replied coldly.

As the officers hauled Marco to his feet and led him toward the police cruisers waiting outside the estate gates, the guests broke into spontaneous applause. Friends, relatives, and business executives moved in around Andrea, offering words of support, hugs, and admiration for her absolute composure.

Julian Sterling walked up to Andrea, softly placing a hand on her arm. “The emergency injunction has already been signed by Judge Miller. His access to your accounts is frozen, and a temporary restraining order is in effect immediately.”

Andrea looked down at little Leo, who was watching the police cars drive away with a sense of quiet relief.

She picked her son up, holding him tightly against her heart.

“It’s over, Leo,” Andrea whispered softly into his hair. “Mommy’s got you. Nobody is ever going to hurt us again.”
