Chapter 9 - Healing and Standing Strong

Another year passed in grace and joy.
On a golden afternoon in late spring, the lawn of the Westwood mansion was once again set up for a birthday celebration. It was Leo’s sixth birthday.
This time, there were no cameras, no fake friends, no corporate scheming, and no loud announcements. The garden was decorated with bright blue banners, colorful balloons, a massive bouncy castle, and the genuine laughter of true family, close friends, and Leo’s schoolmates.
Leo ran across the green grass, wearing a small captain's hat, laughing as he was chased by a golden retriever puppy that Julian had gifted him for his birthday.
Andrea stood on the stone patio, holding a glass of iced tea, watching her son thrive. Her mother walked up beside her, wrapping an arm around Andrea’s waist.
“Look at him,” her mother said softly, tears of happiness glistening in her eyes. “He’s so confident, so happy, and so loved.”
“He knows who his family is,” Andrea said softly, looking over at Julian, who was currently helping three six-year-olds navigate the top slide of the bouncy castle, his laughter ringing across the yard.
Later that evening, after the cake had been cut and the young guests had gone home, Leo sat on the living room rug surrounded by opened present boxes.
Julian crouched down beside him, handing him a small, beautifully wrapped velvet box.
“This one is special, Leo,” Julian said gently. “Your mom and I wanted to give it to you together.”
Leo carefully untied the silver ribbon and opened the box. Inside lay a custom-crafted gold pocket watch, engraved on the back with three simple sentences:
To our brave hero Leo.
Truth is your shield, and love is your home.
Forever, Mom & Julian.
Leo held the watch close to his chest, his eyes shining brightly. He looked up at Julian, then at Andrea, and threw his arms around Julian’s neck in a tight, unhesitating hug.
“Thank you, Dad,” Leo whispered softly into Julian’s shoulder.

Julian froze for a fraction of a second, tears instantly filling his eyes, before he wrapped his strong arms securely around the little boy. He looked up at Andrea over Leo’s head, his face glowing with profound emotion.
Andrea wiped a sweet tear from her cheek, walking over to join them in the tightest, warmest embrace her heart had ever known.
