Chapter 6 - The Fall of Marco & The Divorce War

By nine o’clock that evening, the party guests had departed, leaving the grand mansion quiet under the vast, starlit sky. The birthday decorations were still up, but the atmosphere inside the home had completely shifted from one of lingering trauma to absolute liberation.

In the spacious, sunlit study on the second floor, Andrea sat behind her mahogany desk. Julian Sterling was seated across from her, reviewing a thick stack of financial documents and court filings.

“We ran a full forensic audit on the company’s offshore accounts over the last four hours,” Julian said, sliding a ledger toward her. “Marco wasn't just working with Valerie on the surrogacy scam. Over the last fourteen months, he funneled nearly two point four million dollars out of your brand’s expansion fund into a shell company registered in the Cayman Islands.”

Andrea ran a hand through her dark hair, letting out a long, slow breath. “Two point four million… he was planning to drain everything and run if the CEO takeover failed.”

“Exactly,” Julian nodded. “He used your generosity to finance his lifestyle, pay off Valerie’s gambling debts, and fund their joint accounts. But because every dollar he stole originated from your pre-marital assets, his legal standing in the divorce is entirely destroyed. He will get nothing. In fact, he’s facing federal wire fraud charges that carry a mandatory minimum of ten years.”

At that moment, the door to the study opened softly. Andrea’s mother walked in carrying a glass of warm milk, followed by little Leo in his soft flannel pajamas, rubbing his sleepy eyes.

“Mommy?” Leo mumbled, walking over to her chair. “Is the bad man coming back?”

Andrea immediately scooped him into her lap, wrapping her arms around his small frame. “No, sweetheart. He is never, ever coming back here. This house belongs to you and me.”

“Good,” Leo murmured, leaning his head against her chest. “I want Uncle Julian to stay instead. He brought me the big Lego castle.”

Julian laughed softly, his warm, dark eyes meeting Andrea’s. “I’ll build that castle with you tomorrow morning, buddy. I promise.”

As Andrea rocked her son to sleep, she looked at Julian. Throughout the five years of her marriage to Marco, Julian had been the steady, respectful pillar in the background—never crossing a line, always protecting her business interests, and offering quiet strength whenever Marco had acted out in arrogance.

For the first time in years, Andrea felt the heavy weight on her chest lift. The betrayal had been shocking, but the truth had set her completely free.
