Chapter 8 - The Confrontation in Zurich

Forty-eight hours later, heavy snow was falling over the cobblestone streets of Zurich’s banking district.

Inside the opulent, marble-lined private vault room of Bankverein Suisse, Arthur Vance stood beside a high-ranking bank officer, watching a digital ledger transfer hundreds of millions of dollars into an untraceable offshore account.

Arthur was a distinguished-looking man in his early sixties, with silver hair, a tailored charcoal suit, and an air of absolute entitlement.

"How much longer for the final wire transfer, Herr Weber?" Arthur asked, checking his gold Patek Philippe watch impatiently.

"Approximately three minutes, Herr Vance," the banker replied politely. "Once the digital authentication goes through, the funds will be completely unrecoverable by US authorities."

"Excellent," Arthur smiled, leaning back against the mahogany table. "A pity about Serena... reckless girl. But business is business."

BOOM!

The heavy reinforced double doors of the vault room were blown open off their hinges with a terrifying blast. Smoke and pulverized stone filled the air.

Before the bank guards could raise their weapons, four heavily armed Swiss federal tactical officers stormed the room, their red laser sights pinning the guards to the floor.

"POLIZEI! HANDS ON THE TABLE! NOW!"

Arthur stumbled back, dropping his watch, his face instantly turning pale as ash.

Through the clearing smoke walked Victor Vance. He wore a heavy black wool trench coat, his eyes locked onto his uncle with icy hatred.

Behind him came Detective Miller and two international prosecutors carrying official extradition warrants.

"Victor..." Arthur stuttered, raising his trembling hands into the air. "Listen to me... this isn't what it looks like! Serena tricked me! She forged my digital signature!"

Victor walked slowly up to Arthur until he was standing merely inches away. He looked down at the old man who had betrayed his family, murdered his wife, and tried to ruin his son.

"I listened to the recording, Arthur," Victor said, his voice terrifyingly calm. "I heard you order Victoria’s murder."

Arthur’s mouth opened, but no sound came out. His knees buckled, and he collapsed onto the cold marble floor of the vault.

"The Swiss government has already frozen all associated accounts, Arthur," Detective Miller announced, stepping forward and clicking heavy steel handcuffs around Arthur's wrists. "You are under arrest for International Wire Fraud, Money Laundering, and Capital Murder."

As the officers dragged Arthur out of the vault, Victor looked at the computer monitor. The transfer screen flickered red with a bold message: ACCOUNT FROZEN BY ORDER OF THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT.

The financial empire built on blood and lies had finally crumbled.
