Chapter 2 - The Mask Shatters

Arthur Vance stood under the buzzing fluorescent lights of the garage driveway, his polished leather shoes stepping carefully around grease stains. He adjusted his silk tie, offering Big Mike a practiced, apologetic smile—the kind reserved for boardrooms and country club luncheons.

"I apologize for the late disturbance," Arthur said, his voice smooth, warm, and carefully modulated. "My stepdaughter, Mia, suffers from vivid night terrors and severe emotional distress. She often runs off when her episodes hit. I'm sure you understand how terrified my wife and I have been."

He took a step forward, reaching into his coat pocket. "I’m prepared to compensate your... establishment generously for your trouble. Just let me take my little girl home."

None of the thirty men standing in the shadows moved an inch.

Big Mike crossed his massive, tattooed arms. "She didn't look like she was having a night terror, mister. She looked like she was running for her life."

Arthur’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second, his eyes narrowing slightly before the aristocratic mask snapped back into place. "She's a child with an overactive imagination, sir. Now, if you'll excuse me—"

Arthur made a move toward the open lounge door where Mia was hiding.

He didn't make it two paces.

Goliath stepped out from the doorway. The massive, hundred-pound pitbull didn't bark. He didn't snarl. He simply moved with absolute, silent authority, placing his battle-scarred body directly between Arthur and the girl. Goliath lowered his head, his dark eyes locking onto Arthur’s face with unsettling intelligence.

"Get that hideous brute away from me," Arthur snapped, his voice dropping its pleasant tone, revealing a sharp, cruel edge.

"Goliath doesn't bite unless he sees a monster," Mike said quietly. "And right now, he's staring right at one."

Arthur lost his cool. He raised a foot, making a sharp, aggressive kick toward Goliath to force the dog back. "Get out of my way, you dumb animal!"

It was the fatal mistake.

Goliath didn't flinch. Instead, the dog caught Arthur's pant leg in his jaws, not biting into skin, but holding him firmly in place. The sudden tension threw Arthur off balance. He stumbled, his expensive designer jacket tearing at the seam, and as he panicked, he lunged forward, his face twisting into a hideous sneer of pure rage.

"You filthy little brat!" Arthur roared toward the doorway, forgetting the crowd of men around him. "When I get you home, I'm going to kill that damn dog and lock you in the basement for a month!"

The silence that followed was terrifying.

Arthur froze. The mask hadn't just slipped—it had shattered into a thousand pieces. He looked up, suddenly remembering where he was. Thirty pairs of eyes were staring at him with cold, murderous intensity.

Above them, mounted on the corner of the garage, a red LED light blinked steadily on the high-definition security camera, recording every word and every brutal threat Arthur had just uttered.

Sparks, the club's tech specialist, tapped his tablet and smiled grimly. "Audio and video saved to the cloud, pal. Clean as a whistle."

Arthur’s face drained of color. He scrambled backward, ripping his pants from Goliath's gentle grip. "You think this changes anything?" Arthur hissed, retreating toward his sedan. "I own judges in this town. I own the police chief. You're a bunch of dirty bikers. By morning, I'll have the SWAT team tearing this dump apart!"

Arthur slammed his car door, threw the luxury sedan into reverse, and sped out into the rainy night, tires screeching.

Big Mike turned toward the clubhouse door. Goliath walked over to Mia, who was watching from the doorway, holding her whimpering, bandage-wrapped puppy. Goliath gently pressed his nose against her hand.

"He's wrong about one thing," Mike whispered, kneeling down next to Mia and Goliath. "Nobody is taking you anywhere."
