Chapter 4 - The Storm Gathers

At sunrise, the sound of blaring police sirens shattered the quiet morning.
Four local police cruisers roared into the garage parking lot, tires spraying gravel. Behind them was Arthur Vance’s luxury sedan and a dark SUV belonging to Child Protective Services.
Police officers jumped out with their hands resting heavily on their holstered sidearms. Leading them was Police Chief Miller, a thick-necked man with a stern, arrogant expression.
"Mike!" Chief Miller barked over a bullhorn. "Step out of the building with your hands visible! We have a warrant for the recovery of a missing minor and the arrest of Michael 'Big Mike' Hayes for harboring a fugitive and child endangerment!"
Big Mike didn't flinch. He casually pushed open the heavy double doors of the garage and stepped out onto the driveway. Behind him walked Doc, Sparks, and ten other road-hardened members of the club.
At the very front, walking side by side with Big Mike, was Goliath.
Arthur Vance stepped out of his car, hiding behind two armed officers. "There he is!" Arthur shouted, putting on a dramatic show of anguish. "Chief, that man is holding my daughter hostage! That wild dog attacked me last night when I tried to rescue her!"
Chief Miller unbuttoned his holster strap. "You heard him, Mike. Produce the girl right now, or we break down that door."
"You're not breaking down anything, Miller," Mike said calmly, crossing his arms. "You don't have jurisdiction here for a federal matter."
Miller sneered. "Federal matter? Don't play games with me. This is a local domestic runaway case."
"It's not domestic," a crisp, authoritative female voice announced from the edge of the property.

Everyone turned. A unmarked silver sedan had pulled up behind the police cruisers. A sharp-eyed woman in an immaculate charcoal suit stepped out, holding an ID badge high in the air.
"Special Agent Sarah Ramirez, State Bureau of Investigation," she announced, her eyes sweeping over the standoff. "And Chief Miller, I suggest you tell your men to draw their hands away from their weapons before this becomes a crime scene."
