Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Six months after the night of the storm, the garage was buzzing with life.
The sun shone brightly over the open bay doors. The smell of fresh coffee and sizzling barbecue filled the air.
In the center of the yard, Mia was running across the grass, laughing hysterically as Buster—now fully healed and bounding around like a energetic ball of fur—chased her around a set of motorcycle tires.
On the front porch of the clubhouse, Ellen sat drinking tea, chatting comfortably with Doc and Agent Ramirez. Her face had regained its warm color, the fear and trauma replaced by peace and security.
Big Mike sat on a wooden bench under the shade of an oak tree, working on a custom miniature leather vest.
Goliath lay beside him, his massive head resting on Mike's boot. The old pitbull’s scars were still visible in the sunlight, but his eyes were soft, calm, and contented.
Mia ran over, tumbling into the grass beside Goliath and wrapping her arms tightly around his neck. Goliath let out a low, happy grunt, giving her cheek a big, wet lick.
"Look, Mike!" Mia giggled, holding up a little patch she had made. "It says 'Goliath - Chief Guardian'."
Big Mike smiled, taking the patch and stitching it carefully onto Goliath’s custom vest.

"Fits him perfectly," Mike said softly, watching the little girl and the giant dog play in the warm afternoon sun.
Goliath never barked. He didn't need to. In his silence, he had found his family, protected an innocent life, and given a little girl the one thing she had lost: a home where she would always be safe.
