Chapter 9 - The Reckoning

Three months later, the county courthouse was packed to capacity.
Arthur Vance sat at the defense table, wearing an orange prison jumpsuit instead of his usual tailored silk suits. His high-priced legal team tried desperately to suppress the garage video footage and the testimony from the bikers, but the evidence was overwhelming.
The turning point of the trial came when the prosecution called its final witness.
The courtroom doors opened, and little Mia stepped inside. She wore a neat blue dress, holding a fully healed Buster in her arms. Walking calmly beside her, wearing a customized leather vest with the emblem of the Iron Disciples, was Goliath.
The judge allowed Goliath to sit beside the witness stand to keep the young girl calm.
Mia took the stand, her small voice echoing clearly through the silent courtroom. She pointed her small finger directly at Arthur Vance.
"He hit my mommy," Mia testified, her voice steady and brave. "He hurt Buster. And he told me if I ever told anyone, he would make us disappear. But Goliath protected me. Big Mike protected me."
The jury deliberated for less than thirty minutes.
"Guilty on all counts," the jury foreman announced.

The judge sentenced Arthur Vance to forty-five years in state prison without the possibility of parole. His financial assets were seized and liquidated, with a multi-million-dollar trust fund established for Mia’s education and her mother’s full medical recovery.
Chief Miller was stripped of his badge and charged with official misconduct and corruption, effectively cleansing the county police force of its dirty leadership.
